Some of my favorite blog posts are the ones with before and after pictures. So today I’m sharing some before and afters of my guest room. I started with pretty much nothing. We had a mattress with frame and yucky carpet.
I painted the walls and ceiling blue. Not having a headboard, I tried mosquito netting. Opened up, it can even kind of give you a four poster bed type of feel. Ultimately, the netting came down. I found that floor lamp at Home Depot for $5. Even though it wasn’t the same style, I hoped to be able to work it in.
We also stuck furniture from other rooms in here, including a gigantic tv! That always adds to the peaceful ambiance of any room. Hah.
I found this antique dresser for a great price and the mirror at a garage sale. I had greater plans for the mirror but I never got around to them in that phase. The old wicker chair was free from a friend!
I decided to add some silver to the room. I spray painted frames, the wicker chair, an iron table base, and iron piece of scroll work to use in lieu of a headboard.
There’s definitely some more to be done, like baseboards, curtains, and replacing the ceiling fan from the 90s. The house is a constant work-in-progress so it seems like nothing is ever completely ‘finished’, but here is where we are today.
Magazines for guests to read.
Toiletries in a little painted plant pot.
I wanted it to feel relaxing and peaceful.
What about you? Any tips or suggestions? What have you seen, that you really liked, in guest rooms you’ve stayed in?
