I got this copper star a couple of years ago in Patzcuaro, Mexico. I didn’t see anything like it here in Atlanta at the time but now I’ve noticed they’re more prolific. It’s a Moravian star made out of copper with little bits of colorful fun inlaid in the metal. It has a hinge opening so you can place a light kit or (maybe even a candle?) inside.
I have a simple, one light bulb kit placed inside.
At first it was hanging from a hook in the ceiling in a bedroom but I’ve since moved it to a desk in the living room.
That’s because I thought it would be nice for it be near ………..drum roll……… my new light fixture in the downstairs hallway!
I’ve been wanting a Moravian star light fixture but needed one that mounted directly to the ceiling instead of a hanging pendant (plenty of those on Amazon). I got this one from Shades of Light. I was so excited to find it and regular shipping was super fast. I received it 2 days after I ordered it.
If you haven’t installed a light fixture yourself, don’t be afraid. It’s fairly easy. I didn’t shut off the electricity at the breaker, but I would advise doing so if this is your first time. The key is to pay attention to the way you take down your old/existing fixture. When I took the previous fixture down, I noted which wire was matched/wrapped to which wire. I’m glad I did, because I think the wires in my ceiling are mislabled. I usually attach like for like, the white wire in my ceiling to the white wire on the fixture. In this case, the white wire in my ceiling was attached to the black wire of my OLD fixture. So when I reconnected, I did the same thing, matched white to black on the NEW fixture. The fun is always when you go to flip the light switch. Voila, success!
I’m sadly behind on replacing the old 90s light fixtures in my house. Maybe that’s why getting a new light fixture was more exciting than it should’ve been. This is only the third spot to receive a shiny new light. Most of the rooms still have have ceiling fans from the last decade. Ah well, one thing at a time!

Well, I guess I don’t need to make another trip to Georgia (smile). Between Skpe and this blog, I can see you and what you are doing with the house. By the way, I love the new door and the lights. Very good! As my mother always say:”It’s a thinking world.” You certainly have proved those words to come true with all your ideas. Keep up the good work!
this is impressive. you have truly turned the corner earned the title, mini martha. 🙂 i can’t say you where, “a chip off the old block.” it seems having a ‘work in progress’ has brought up some dormant genes. great ideas. love how you’re using items from your travels. no tee-shirts for you!
