My mom likes boxes. She accessorizes with pretty boxes, made of wood or glass or plastic, placed throughout the house. When I began to travel on my own, I would look for boxes in whatever city I was in to bring back as a souvenir for her.
Well, lately, I’ve taken a liking to something similar. Not boxes, but pretty bowls. I don’t know why, because I don’t have a lot of surfaces on which to put them. Maybe I need to create a bowl wall, like my plate wall in the dining room. Ah, there’s an idea for the kitchen remodel next year.
But for now, I’ve placed one on my night table for jewelry taken off before going to sleep.
And a silver leafed one in the living room, for jewelry I take off while I’m relaxing on the couch.
Last month, when I went to Scott’s, I picked up this Revere bowl because I liked the shape and we know I love shine and shimmer. It was $5. It was dull and cloudy when I found it but I assumed it was silver plated and it would clean up ok. It didn’t really clean up to a pretty silver sheen, maybe it’s been stripped too much of its plating, but it did clean up to a sort of pewter-like shine. I decided to keep it and put a plant in it.
Then, last week, I saw a mini version at Goodwill. The mini cleaned up well. I really like this shape. It has really old looking silversmith markings underneath.
I saw these in Anthropologie. Can I find a place to put these too?
Love the gray one.
And check out this lamp that was near the bowls in the store. This is definitely something that can be DIY’d.
Ah, there’s an idea for all the bowls I have yet to collect: A lamp base made of stacked bowls! What do you think?

I used to collect shot glasses, but decided I don’t take shots so why am I collecting them. Cut to collecting boxes, made out of clay to be specific. I like the shiny bowls.
I completely agree – I LOVE little bowls! Typically they house loose jewelry that I shed throughout the house, matches for candles, etc. They are really cute stacked on top of whatever, but house little bits that would otherwise be lost in my couch cushions!
