I looooove mercury glass. I was in West Elm a few weeks ago and saw pretty mercury glass votive candle holders but I didn’t want to spend any money that day. They weren’t super expensive, they just seemed too expensive for me for what they were.
Anyway, after a field trip to Z Gallerie, I now have two lovely pieces from there. I often see really pretty candle holders but I don’t really have/burn a lot of candles so I kind of pass them by. I realized that was silly because if I like it, I can always use it for something other than what it was intended for. So that’s what I’m going to do with my brand new super pretty mercury glass. I can definitely see myself going a little overboard with collecting pieces.
Here are the two pieces sparkling at home now.
Of course when you’re a little obsessed you don’t stop there. Oh no, you go further. You make your own! Inspired by another creative blog writer I picked up this large glass vase at Goodwill for $3.
Then I picked up this stuff from Hobby Lobby.
I now think this Looking Glass Mirror-Like Paint is THE coolest stuff ever!
I sprayed the paint into my glass vase. I tried to get an even light coat but I guess I didn’t try hard enough because did have some drips down the side. I guess you could wipe it clean and start over but I rolled with it. I’ll be more careful next time. And there will be a next time, because after spraying the glass and seeing it dry, I’m so psyched to spray more glass.
The paint dried really quickly. Under 8 minutes. After it dried, I sprayed just a little bit of water out of a spray bottle into a small spot and then used a paper towel to rub the sides and just repeated that in a few more spots. That’s it! Maybe I should spray a clear protective coat on top. For right now though, I don’t plan to use this vase for flowers or water or anything. I just put a candle inside.
I love sparkle.
