I had these two pieces of artwork hanging in the master bath. My mom gave them to me awhile back and the cherry stained frames match a few other cherry wood pieces in the bathroom. In keeping with not spending any additional money, I decided to try to make these pieces work instead of replacing them altogether.
I plan to share more info on the bathroom soon, but last week, I did some painting in there and that change made me notice the cream matting on these pieces even more, so I decided to update them by painting the mats white. Hey, why not, right? The frames were a bit scratched too so I thought spray painting them would give them a new life.
So, I took them apart (they were stapled in the back underneath the brown paper backing) and brought everything outside to spray.
I sprayed the mats with Rustoleum’s white gloss and the frames with Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze. Look at the sparkly goodness of Oil Rubbed Bronze in the outdoor light.
And here’s the final product. I really like the white mats!
Unfortunately, tragedy struck and I wasn’t able to rehang both of them right away. I managed to break the glass for one frame so only one is complete right now. Bummer.
Any suggestions for the best place to find replacement 14×12 glass?
Update: My Home Depot did not cut glass so I ended up having a piece cut for $5 at Ace Hardware.

P.S. Roomspiration continues with guest bedrooms today and I’ve linked to mine over at DIY By Design.
That looks great! Huge difference. It really brightened them up. There are glass cutters in most cities that will be able to cut a piece of glass for next to nothing. The guy I use will cut a mirror for $5/cut. Or go to Hobby Lobby and by the cheapest, crappiest frame as long as it has the right size glass. Throw away the frame. 🙂
They look great! You can get glass cut to size at Lowes or Home Depot for around $5!
Thanks for the suggestions!!! I’ll stop at Home Depot tomorrow.
Great update! That’s really sweet little art!
You did a great job on the frames. Looks awesome!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Cheers!
That looks so fresh and modern. Great job!
