I’ve wanted two mirrors to flank the side of the bed in the master bedroom. The room doesn’t have alot of natural light (which is okay for sleeping) so I wanted to find a way to reflect more light. With lamps on the night tables I thought mirrors would be perfect. I found two of these mirrors at an antique market marked $10 each but on sale for 50% off. Yes, that means they were $5 each. What a deal.
While, I knew I wanted to paint them, I wasn’t immediately inspired on a color choice. Let’s review the options I considered. I liked the idea of silver leaf on the frame (a la my new chalkboard) and love any opportunity to add a little bling to a room. One night table has some brass work on it though, and while it’s fine to mix metals, I wasn’t quite sold on that look for this room. I also considered tying in the brown silk curtains by using O(il) R(ubbed) B(ronze) or even tying in the black grosgrain ribbon on the table skirt. I happened to already have a can of black paint so I sprayed two coats and tried it out.
I like the black frame but I wanted a more integrated, blended look. That’s what led me to white. Fortunately, I already had a can of white paint as well. I haven’t hung them yet. I got a little uninspired. For some reason I think these mirrors would look awesome painted a shimmery gold. Just not in this room. So maybe they will end up elsewhere! For now, here’s a crazy shot with both the black and white mirrors.

Ironically, the two cans of spray paint cost more than the mirrors. When does that ever happen?!

These are beautiful! What a steal! I think I like the black better, which is surprising because I would normally say white. I like that it stands out a little.
Thanks. I like them in black too but not in that room. I am now thinking they belong in a different room!
I think I prefer the white- it blends into the board and batten instead of breaking up the pattern with a bold contrast, and it blends into the fresh colors more than the black. Also, the bed reads as the biggest block of color and I prefer white over black when paired with brown.
New reader!
Thanks so much for your input and welcome!!!!!
In the photograph it seem like the white look less obtrusive so I like that better. But sometimes being there it may present differently. You should go with the one you like the best. The one you feel pleased with.
Yes, it is a conundrum because I like the mirrors in black. But I like them in white for this room. But now I think I just want to keep that wall simple. I may put the mirrors elsewhere.
Thanks!
I like the mirrors in black. I’m a collector of thrifted mirrors and I never seem to paint them like I intend to when I buy them. I have a half dozen wooden mirrors like you have hanging around the house. You’ve inspired me to get busy.
Thanks for your input. I’m so excited you’ve been inspired! Hope you’ll share!
