We have 8 closets in this house. I’ve cleaned out 6 of them this month (one is in the laundry room and was rearranged back when I remodeled the laundry room. So, that makes 7 that have been decluttered).
Let me tell you – it may sound trivial but – this business is freeing! This business of cleaning out clutter and getting rid of things that you have to move to get to things you use – it’s mentally and emotionally freeing! I trashed the trash, gave some things away, and took the rest to Goodwill.
These clean closets make me happy. It’s so easy reaching in them to find things. And it just feels good to know that you didn’t move the clutter out of the rooms open to the public; to know that even behind closed doors your STUFF is organized and looking good!
I didn’t do anything fancy (- yet! I have an idea for yellow in the guest bedroom closet). The closets all still need painting. But I’ll get around to that some day. It just feels good to see a linen closet go from this to this:

Feeling down or blah? PURGE! I bet you’ll feel better.

I was planning on cleaning out my pantry today and now that I’ve read this, it’s a definite must do.
Wonderful Wonderful You inspire us but it is not going to happen here very soon.
You inspired me to get rid of a lot of stuff this week. I am not finished but it is a world of difference already!!!
I also like to purge–you’re right; it really is therapeutic! I spent about an hour taking down a bunch of that wire shelving yesterday. Fun, fun!
Came over from TDC. I’m stuck with 5 wire closets like yours…I had never thought of using baskets and bins to house things. Thanks for sharing!
You have really given me an incentive to get my closets organized and neat. Thanks for sharing your lovely ideas.
