Something dawned on me the other day: we have more painted furniture than we used to. When I look back at the past few years, all of our furniture has been natural wood finished in various stains and it’s sort of been replaced with painted pieces. This house has a lot of wood in it, whether it be the molding in the living room, or the banister in the hallway, or the flooring on the entire first floor. Maybe that’s why I’ve since been gravitating towards painted furniture.
Let’s take the dining room. Updating that room basically swapped out stained wood furniture for painted. I even painted the Goodwill chairs I found to add to the dining set.
And then I painted two pieces I already had in a new favorite color.
What’s nice about painting small items is that you get a fresh change so quickly without a ton of work. For the chairs, wine rack, and hallway table I took the easy way out by following these basic steps:
1) Liquid Sander applied to the entire piece first. Follow the directions and allow it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
2) Paint one coat lightly with foam roller or brush and allow it to dry for about an hour.
3) Optional: sand in between coats. To me, it really depends what you’re painting, the amount of patience you have, and the finished look you are going for.
4). Paint another coat with foam roller or brush.
That’s it. I actually don’t mind painting (I painted all the rooms in the house too). I think it’s somewhat relaxing and I love that you can make and see the change so quickly. How about you? What have you painted lately? Was it easy going or torturous?

i love the color combo on the wine storage piece. i have yet to actually attempt to paint furniture, though i have had a piece waiting in the wings for a year!
That wine rack is gorgeous and looks beautiful with the wall color. Those are two of my favorite colors together, and its just gorgeous!
