It is crazy how excited I am. We have finally made the most important kitchen decision: whether or not to gut and replace or work with the cabinets we have.
First, let me say, it takes a lot of legwork when you are trying to scrimp and save. You have to call a lot of people and make a lot of appointments and spend some time discussing the plans with each person who comes out to offer a quote. They all give you different ideas to consider. And I’m a person who knew exactly what I wanted!
I’ve been through the whole gamut. The first people who came out were cabinet refacers and they gave me that high price for just new fronts. Next, I worked with a kitchen designer at Home Depot to come up with a plan, actually two plans and two quotes. Then, I worked with another refacing company who gave me a much better price for new fronts. I also found an individual, custom cabinet maker who submitted a very reasonable quote and I had just about decided on the custom cabinet maker when I found out the company doing my granite counter tops, A Polished Finish, also does cabinets, so I got a quote from them as well.
I’m really glad I did because it turns out I am getting exactly what I wanted, brand new, shaker style, white cabinetry with all the fanciness: spice racks, pull out bins, and glass fronts. You can see a sample door on the blog Facebook page here. Their quote also included the range hood installation, plumbing, demo, and removal. All for much less than the first, high quote just for new doors and drawer fronts! And it’s a plus that they will also install the counter top so down time will be minimal. In fact, they state it will take just 3 days to demo and remove old cabinets, install new cabinets, and install new granite.
Since they are taking care of all of that, I need to get to work on the list of other decisions to be made: tile for the backsplash, choosing a color for the wall and then tackling all the trim that needs to be painted. There are 4 windows in the kitchen area. And they all need painting! Oh goody.
Demolition begins this week! I can’t wait. I should have an update for you Wednesday!

Oh my goodness that’s so exciting! I can’t wait to see the results! Getting rid of those overhead cabinets is going to make the whole room look so much bigger.
Sounds great!!!! Just to make those decisions is a load off the brain and I see that has happened.
