We last left off with Day 4 of the kitchen remodel. Day 5 was a Sunday and I was sore from painting all day so I didn’t do anything in the kitchen. Monday, Day 6, was the day we finally had a working faucet and sink. The plumber came (shout out to Roy!) and redid the piping under the sink so it’s more straightfoward and we have less ‘contraption’ looking plumbing.
He also hooked up the dishwasher. It’s significantly quieter than our old dishwasher!
Steve, the cabinet installer, worked on toe kicks, trim, and hardware (knobs and pulls) Monday. I wasn’t able to stay home that day so when I returned I found things looking a lot more finished. The drawers arrived (there was a problem with the original order and they were off being fixed and painted). I was able to put away all the dishes, pots, and silverware. The only cabinet that remained undone was the pantry, so I couldn’t yet put away food.
It was (and still is) exciting to fill up my new, useful cabinets. I have this spice rack next to the stove. Don’t you love it?
And oh yeah, you can see the hole in the peninsula is filled because the stove was hooked up on Day 6 as well. I have a trash cabinet too. I LOVE that it takes the trash out of the way!
The following Thursday (Day 9) was the last day of work for the cabinet company (A Polished Finish). Steve finished up the pull out drawers in the pantry and the crown molding on the drink station side of the kitchen.
We have 3 pull out drawers in the pantry now. This has both pros and cons. I like that we can pull them out to get to everything, but the mechanism that allows them to pull out actually takes up more space in the cabinet resulting in a little less room. While I did some weeding out (and throwing away of very expired food), things are still just kind of thrown in there.
I am so happy we are past the no water, no stove, dusty mess phase! All the while, I’ve been painting (door & window trim). Apparently, that phase, at least in this house, won’t be over for quite some time!
