Isn’t this closet fabulous? Both organized and beautiful, everything has it’s proper place.
Our master bedroom has two, small walk-in closets. One day, I would love to take out the wire shelving and replace with a fancy closet organizer\system. But even if I never get to do that, I knew it could look better than this.
First, I went to Ikea and grabbed a bunch of wood hangers (I tweeted about this last week) . They have them in white and in black, but the natural wood are 8 for $3.99 in the store and that worked for me. Over the weekend, I changed out all the old plastic and wire hangers, donating the pile to the cleaners for recycling. Since I had to rehang every item anyway, I put things back in the closet according to color. The whole process took under 2 hours.
So, if you’re like me and cannot undertake a major closet overhaul, just remember two things: 1. Uniform hangers 2. Group clothing by color.
This is such an easy and inexpensive update for such a big impact, I’m really not sure why I didn’t do it long ago! It just instantly feels and looks better when clothes hang evenly and items are easy to find!
I picked up this nifty scarf hanger at Ikea too. It would also be great to use for belts, ties, or jewelry.
Have you organized a closet recently? Any good tips or gadgets that helped?

Your idea is great!!!!!!!!!! What I like about my closet is that I can hang the shirts, blouses on the top rail and the pants on the hanger just below. Works out great. then I can hang the dresses and long skirts and coats and jackets on the opposite side. You are doing a great job.
I love an organized closet! When we moved, it was the first thing that I did after painting the walls. I think wooden hangers are key to having a fancier look :).
i have not tried wooden hangers, sounds like a good idea. i have been working on my closet and was not really sure how to get it looking like the beautiful organized pic at the top of the post. this gets me off to a good start!
Woman after my own heart. Every blue moon, when I wash the massive pile of clothes on my closet floor, I get around to hanging all my clothes by color. It really DOES make such a difference in the way you view your closet. I should bite the bullet and get wood hangers. I at least upgraded to plastic. Hubby…he likes his wire hangers for undershirts and the like. Sigh.

I think I need that scarf hanger!!! Looks great. I did the wood hanger thing too. Such a nice difference.
My closet badly needs some organization. I agree the uniform hangers make such a difference.
The wooden hangers look great! I just organized my master closet but I still have the white plastic hangers in there. I think I may be shopping soon…

I have that same scarf organizer from IKEA and I love it!
I am a huge fan of the wood hanger as well. I use them and love to color code. Thanks for coming to the party!
Thanks for the inspiration. It is certainly closet cleaning season around here. Your choice of wooden hangers gives a sturdy look. Although I have used plastic hangers for years, I find that I am breaking them so I just set a goal to replace them with wooden ones in the next year.
That’s great! Do you have an Ikea nearby? Wood hangars are inexpensive there.
