Here’s an idea: how about showing up and changing the look of the entrance to someone’s home with a quick coat of paint? We could call the series Door Crashers! Homeowners would return home to a front door painted a brand new color and we could anticipate and laugh about their reactions.
Well it’s not a series but I definitely just did it! A friend had been talking about painting her door for a few weeks. When she went on vacation, I made arrangements with a relative to paint her front door, surprising her when she got back! I chose the color but I kept it in the same color family I’d know she liked and used already in her home.
Honestly, this little door crashing took about an hour tops and that’s because the weather wasn’t ideal (it was a little cold) and the first coat took longer to dry.
The homeowner has some other front entry updates in the works but just check out what a difference a new color made.
If you were in the market for a new coat of paint on your front door, would you be willing to let someone else decide on color and just be surprised? Would be kind of wild but fun, right? It’s only paint! If you didn’t like it, you could just paint over it.

Love it. The color change really made a difference. Great choice of color.
Love it! I have (2) front doors and they both have direct sun light all day all year long. They are so hard to keep clean and fresh….I hate having to paint it. I would love to have someone surprise me!
Oh, I wish I could surprise you! Next time you paint though, try using porch & floor paint, it seems to do better in full sun.
Love this idea. What a wonderful surprise! It can change the entire curb appeal of your home. Jae, you are amazing.
Love the new color. Is she going to update the trim on the storm door too?
Yup, she plans to replace that storm door and paint the two planters too!
