So, one afternoon last week I decided to try something out. I have this awkward wall in the landing upstairs. It’s awkward because it has four utilitarian objects randomly placed. Why can’t builders line these things up?
I gathered up a stack of stuff I had stashed in the laundry room: prints from New Orleans, decorative plates, a small silver platter, one thrifted mirror, one mirror found on clearance from Hobby Lobby, an empty gold frame from Goodwill, and basically decided to just throw them up on the wall. I didn’t lay out a plan before I did it but just sort of held things up to see if it would work.
I found that globe at Goodwill a few months back and thought about painting the base a fresh color but haven’t done a thing to it yet. The lantern is filled with stringed lights. It is so pretty used as a hallway night light.
The other gallery walls in our house have definitely been more planned and some have expanded over time. This one was super spontaneous. It’s all a bit eclectic and unplanned and I’m not sure it will stay this way but it’s kind of growing on me.
Have you hung any new art on the walls? Ever just hung what you had on hand and hoped it work? I may be a little crazy in that respect. -J
My breakfast room wall has a big ol phone jack and light switch right in the wrong place. I was just staring at it for the millionth time yesterday wondering if I should do the same thing you did and just frame them with an empty frame. I’ve been playing around with turning the whole wall into a mismatched gallery anyways. After seeing yours I think I’ll go for it. I guess I need to go hunting for frames.
That turned out great! Sometimes unplanned is the best way!!!!
wow that turned out very well! that’s a great idea!
What a transformation!! Good use of stuff in the closet. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. It worked out this time. Lately, I’m on a mission to banish bare walls!
Hanging things up and seeing what happens is usually how I roll! My husband came home a couple weeks ago and told me “I pretty much expect everything to be moved when I come home and you’ve been off.” I’m not sure if that’s good or bad yet! I might go with neutral…
I’ve decided it’s a good thing!
This is genius Jae! My friend has the same tricky wall. Gonna show this to her.
