I love this idea executed by one of my readers. She transformed a bookshelf she already had to create a portable, mini mudroom. This is a great idea for those who rent because it’s easy to take it with you. It’s also a nice way to maximize space in a small area.
She writes: I had a bookshelf left over from a garage sale. I primed it with the infamous Zinsser 1.2.3 then painted with a satin white. I arranged the shelves how I wanted them and added under mount hooks on the top shelf.
What a great use for an old bookcase! I love the chunkiness of the shelves. This redo gives me another idea for those old armoires many have. If you don’t repurpose it elsewhere in your home (great example in this post), you could turn that armoire into a mini mudroom.
Have you come up with a new use for an old item in your home? Do share!

A great idea!!! Like it much!
like this idea! would work very well for me as a renter!
Re purpose is the name of the GAME!!!
Great idea!
I love this idea, AWESOME! 🙂
A PERFECT use of vertical space!
That works like a charm!
This is such a good idea. The shoes and clutter by the back door can be so annoying, and we don’t have an actual “mud room.”
Really good use of an old bookcase. I got one sitting in my garage right now…
