Earlier this year, back in May actually, we did some landscaping in the front yard. Our grass was pretty much nonexistent, taken over by weeds. Here it is the day the sod was being installed:
We had very specific instructions on how to water new sod (this is Zeon Zoysia sod) and I think we are one of the few that benefited from the rainy summer Atlanta experienced. All of that natural watering saved us some money! The grass is doing pretty well so far.
We also planted flowering plants in the bed near the front of the house. Of course, when you first plant things the mulch takes up must of the space because the foliage is so small.
Now at the end of the summer, some of the plants didn’t make it and others have filled in nicely, even looking a bit wild. Next season, I plan to do some rearranging with flower color for it to look a little less wild and a little more purposeful. Live and learn.
Soon, everything will be a little more brown and it will be time to start raking leaves. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather!
What changes did you make outside this summer? Any new plants, flowers, or furniture?

Oh my gosh your trees are fantastic! I wish our yard was that green. The soil here in North Texas is clay hard to have nice grass.
I used to live in Texas (south, though). I like St. Augustine grass – so easy to maintain.
I know I am dreading raking leaves. I love the purple and pink flowers you have though. They filled in nicely! Those are my favorite colors for a garden. I planted more potted flowers outside this summer, unfortunately most didn’t survive the heat even with all the rain. But I have been able to eat herbs from the garden.
