DIY Earring Holder

Awhile back, I dressed up a thrift store cork board  to store my jewelry, but I found that solution was really only good for the necklaces.  I store the earrings I wear infrequently in a jewelry box and keep the frequently worn earrings in a small pedestal bowl on my night table.

I found that the  earrings I wear the most were getting a little scratched up being tousled around in that bowl so I decided it would be better to hang them.

To make the earring display stand I used just four things:  a picture frame, wire mesh (aka ‘hardware cloth‘ – I originally bought a package to make the clothespin chandelier in the laundry room), a piece of burlap, and some paint.   I went with a quick spray of white paint on the frame.   I also gilded the wire mesh.  It’s normally a dull silver metal, but it looks a little nicer with a quick spray of gold paint.  Once the paint dried, I assembled all of the pieces.  I put the wire mesh in the frame first, being sure to bend it so it bows out a little.  I placed the glass from the frame behind the wire mesh and then the burlap along with the frame backing to hold it all in.   I used burlap because I had plenty of it and it didn’t clash with the space, but it would be fun to change this out when I find a new fabric, patterned paper, or  just whenever the mood strikes.

My display stand size is a 5×7 frame and sits on my night table, but you could also go big to hang on the wall.  This was my favorite kind of project: quick, easy, and I already had all the supplies on hand!
