Friends recently bought a new house in a neighborhood very close to ours. I actually rode my bike through their neighborhood regularly before, so it’s nice to have friends living there now. This is their second home, so they are not completely new to homeownership. I still wanted to give them something to celebrate their new home so I put together some of my favorites.
I’ve mentioned before that I love Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena cleaning products. When I use them and get a whiff of the scent, it actually cheers me up. It’s that good. I love spraying the countertop spray – it’s a little pick me up! So, I went to the store and picked up the following:
- large glass jar with lid
- Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena All Purpose Cleaner
- Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena Foaming Hand Soap
- Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena Dish Soap
- Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena Counter top spray
I already had a new striped dish towel (purchased on sale from West Elm) and I decided to monogram it with the first letter of their last name to include in the jar. By the way, I’ve done this quite a few times for others since making my own. A monogrammed dish towel makes a nice addition in a gift package. Pictured below, I included the towels with a gift of DIY monogrammed glasses.
But back to the housewarming gift, I really wanted to add some live greenery too. I separated some of my own batch of peppermint and replanted it in a small pot to include in the package. I love having fresh herbs on hand and have a few growing outdoors. Peppermint is easy to care for (I really don’t do anything special and it flourishes) and lovely to use in fruit salads and drinks.
I arranged everything in the large jar, tied a ribbon around it and voila – an easy-peasy housewarming gift that I hope will be very useful! Do you have any other housewarming gift ideas?

Simple, beautiful, elegant
This is so cute, especially the jar instead of the standard gift bag! I’m usually kind of lost without the registry, so this is a great idea.
I love it….A jar filled with love of a personalized kind! I’m sure the recipients were very much pleased.
Lovely idea, J.
Thanks all!
