This weekend we worked out in the yard a bit. We have a lot of trees in our yard and we’ve found that doing a bit of maintenance as the leaves are falling, instead of waiting for all of them to fall works out better.
In the past we’ve had a landscaper friend come and cut back all the bushes for winter, but this weekend, I decided to cut back the bushes that surround the front walk way myself. We do have two large holly trees that need professional help, since they are too tall and wide for me to trim.
So, I took out the hedge trimmer and we went from this in mid summer:
You can see more of the front door from the street now. The street view of the house always changes with the fall and winter seasons.
I also pruned back all the hydrangea and rose bushes but I didn’t take before pictures so I won’t bother showing you the cut back branches.
While cleaning up the yard, I found this piece of an old, dead bush. I think it looks so cool, almost like driftwood so I’m keeping it. Especially since I just shared that reminder. I think I will spray it with a clear coat to protect it and give it a slight sheen.
How was your weekend? Did you find anything cool outdoors?

P.S. By the way, time really flies. I’m approaching my 50th post this week and am excited to have something different for you to mark the milestone. Be sure to check back Wednesday!
Good Job! your hedges look a lot better than mine… I tried to trim them back this weekend and they ended up looking like crazy orbs… oh well
