When I told you about my new lamps I mentioned the mismatched night tables we have in our bedroom. When I redid the dining room I moved a marble topped Bombe chest out of there and into the bedroom. I tried the Bombe chest out on my side of the bed but it is a very ornate piece and I ended up liking it much better on A’s side of the bed. (That reminds me that I should probably do a review of master bedroom changes since I’m getting ready to try something new in there.)
So the Bombe chest on A’s side left an empty spot on my side. I didn’t want to spend a lot on a night table so I used something I found at Goodwill. I found a solid wood, drop leaf, 32inch round table. I like the versatility of it.
It can be large and round, or smaller by dropping both leaves. However, it’s not very pretty and it doesn’t fit in with the look I’m going for. So, the first thing I did was to cover it with a white table cloth. (By the way, you can see my previous lamps in the pic below)
It turns out that the size was just too big for being next to the bed, so I had to drop the leaf in the back so it would fit better. But I still didn’t really love that look or size either.
I considered scrapping the idea of using the table altogether. I thought about painting the table. I considered refinishing it in a darker stain. But those options weren’t ideal. I want a bedside table to provide a bit of storage, or at least hide storage options like baskets.
That’s when I got inspired by a couple of images pinned on Pinterest here and here.
My table has rounded sides when the leaves are down, but I figured a table skirt would still work. There was only one little problem. I don’t sew! Good thing for me my mom does!
I chose a white denim fabric and black grosgrain ribbon. Materials totaled $38. I also chose to not only have pleats at the four corners like the inspiration pics above, but to add a pleat in the middle in the front and back.
I need to do a better job at ironing but my mom finished it in no time and here’s the finished product.
Now I can store stuff underneath and all my electrical cords are hidden. It’s great – thank you again Mom!
