Every May I wait with excitement for the peonies in my yard to bloom and this year they never arrived. I’m not sure what went wrong, they have bloomed for the past 6 years. Maybe there was a cold snap too late in the season. Bummer.
The good news is, there are a still a few other blooms in the yard. Currently, we have hydrangeas, gardenias, and pink and red oleanders.
I picked up a package of baby’s breath on clearance for $1 at the grocery store. At home, I foraged in the yard for some blooms and greenery and put my own arrangements together. I already had everything but the baby’s breath!
I ended up not using the pine cones, but I did use the fern leaves.. I found gardenias are hard to work with and they seem to wilt/turn quickly. But the scent is so fabulous it’s nice to have them inside even if it’s only for a short time.
Since we spend a lot of time in the kitchen, I’ve found it’s refreshing to have fresh blooms there. I’ve been keeping blooms near the sink since that’s an area used often and it’s a little pick me up to see something pretty.
Have you made your own arrangements? Which flowers are your favorites?

Really appreciate how you harvest from your garden. My yard blooms (no thanks to me….previous owner gets the I miss this every year…as I’m just not an outdoors person (work from home and don’t spend much time outside…go from the house to the car in the garage..and away…!!) Always wind up giving Publix a couple $ for a pick me up….you’re right…it’s just nice to see something soft and pretty during your day…and how much better if it comes from your own yard!!
