I’m working on a new project. A friend has decided to redecorate her bedroom and has enlisted my help. She just bought new furniture: bed, dressers, and night tables and she wanted to create a glamorous feel.
I put together the following plan.
Color palette: light and dark gray, white, hot pink.
1. Curtains. Due to the window layout, hang curtains right outside the bay window area for impact, drama, and feeling of coziness. Hang 2 panels on each side. Specific options: You can’t beat Ikea for inexpensive curtains. Try the RITVA or ANITA in dark gray. You can always return them if you don’t like them.
2. Roman shades: Replace current blinds with roman shades in a fun pattern. Have the shades custom made (they are many vendors on Etsy) or purchase ready-made. Those pictured here are from West Elm.
3. On the TV wall, keep your TV on the current dresser and add art on the walls around the TV. No need to buy specific art – you can use favorite photos in black and white! Stick with simple frames and large white matting. Silver frames would be a lovely to choice continue the glam theme. Frames can be found at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and Joann’s. Be sure to use a coupon (which can be found on the store’s website)!
4. Place a statement mirror above the headboard. It would be great to use a round mirror to break up the hard angles of the rest of the room. The mirror will also reflect light. Specific options: The mirror pictured here is from Z Gallerie. Marshalls, HomeGoods, and Target also are great resources for mirrors.
5. Armed bench. Add additional seating with a bench in the window area. An armed bench adds a little added comfort and flair. Check Overstock.com, but also check the usual places (Marshalls, TJ Maxx)
6. White bedding! This will create a calm, serene, yet polished feel. Bamboo sheets would be a luxurious touch! Specific options: The bedding pictured here is from Pottery Barn. Tuesday Morning, Marshalls, and TJMaxx also carry duvets.
7. Additional lamps will allow you to adjust the lighting and mood in the room. Look for simple, classic lines. Mercury glass or a silver metallic finish would be great. Specific options: HomeGoods, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx have vases similar to the one pictured here for reasonable prices.
8. A side chair will add an additional place to perch when getting dressed or relaxing. I love how the color and the nailhead trim on this one from Target ties into the color scheme and the nailhead trim on the headboard.
9. While not an exact match, this just represents the dark wood furniture already in the room.
10. I love the glamour of mirrored furniture. My suggestion is to swap out current night tables (both, or at least one) for mirrored pieces like the one pictured. Specific options: Table pictured here is from Nieman Marcus but check Target, Marshalls, HomeGoods for similar cheaper options.
11. Pink flowers. Add a soft touch of pink with flowers in a silver vase. Spring for fresh flowers often or buy a silk arrangement to keep permanently. Specific options: Ikea and several craft stores have individual silk stems you can purchase individually to make your own arrangement.
12. Pillows & Throws. Pillows are a great way to accessorize and it’s easy to swap them out when you want to change color schemes. Choose pillows that highlight your color scheme with just a touch of hot pink. Bold graphic patterns will really pop against the white bedding. The pillows pictured here are from Etsy.

13. Paint colors. Suggested wall color: Benjamin Moore’s Horizon Gray. Runner up: Benjamin Moore’s Stonington Gray. [Home Depot can mix thesecolors in any paint brand you choose] For additional impact get a second can of gray paint mixed at 50% tint. This adds more white to the color resulting in a lighter color. Alternate the original gray color with the lighter gray color to create a subtle, tone on tone striped wall for the headboard wall only.
Add additional color through accessories (perhaps silver or pink or white frames, vases, books, etc) on your night tables and dresser. Something large scale/tall on the dresser with the mirror would look great!
Have fun!
She is working on the room now. Hopefully, I’ll be able to share how it all turned out soon!
