I recently traveled to the west coast. There wasn’t a lot of decor or DIY stuff involved in my trip but I did find it interesting to see lessons learned from hotel decor. Even hotel decor in a flashy place like Las Vegas.
In Vegas, I stayed at the Encore hotel right next door to the Wynn. The Wynn complex interior design is bright and over the top. We’re talking lots of bright, stimulating colors, and a mixture of opulent styles. While that doesn’t describe the look I’m going for in my home, or even the look most people are going for, I still found inspiration and good ideas.
Let’s begin in the lobby. The Encore lobby’s main color theme is a bright candy apple red. We’re talking red chandeliers and red carpet.
There’s something amazing about the scale of all that red glass. I can definitely see using a red light fixture on a smaller scale as a pop of color or a wow factor.
Now moving along to my room. In the room, I noticed the black molding and black painted doors. I really liked the striped curtains with a band of black at the bottom that tied everything together.
Then, in the huge hallways, I saw several oversized tables and credenzas with accessories.
Note the black and white vases in several different sizes and heights and how they are paired together and then placed with only one item of color. This is a nice way to display a collection.
I also noticed the catering department used serving carts that were upholstered with nailhead trim. That’s a nice reminder on how to dress up some of the simple, everyday use items. You can add nailhead trim to chairs and ottomans and maybe even upholstered walls or cupboard doors.
And speaking of the catering department, I loved several of the serving items out on display. The silver branch three tier serving piece added a lovely bit of shine. And the silver hammered bowls were placed on tables just to hold napkins.
So there you have it, a few little things I saw, that sparked some inspiration, while spending a few days in a flashy hotel. Where have you found inspiration lately?

I love these inspiration images. And I love anything with nailhead trim!
those chandeliers are very intense! really gives new meaning to the term ‘wow factor’!! Really love the hammered bowls too – I feel they are wonderful in any decor scheme!
I LOVE those striped curtains — especially the black at the bottom. Makes them a little edgier than normal curtains. Thanks for sharing your inspiration! 🙂
The display of jars on the hallway table gives me goosebumps….LOVE IT!! I am all things collected…and this gives me ideas for how to pump up the volume on pulling together items that are like, in ways that highlight variety.
